Portfolio of Works

I have always been attracted to Nocturnes... paintings depicting scenes at night. For years I have visited works by Charles Rollo Peters, called "The Poet of Night", is best known for his Tonalist landscapes, especially nocturnes, with much of his subject matter being scenes around his home in Monterey, California.

Occasionally I  paint a small image (6"x6") as a reference for a larger painting.  

Occasionally I like to paint ravens (& other subjects) just for fun. These are usually on smaller canvases or cradled artist board, frequently unframed.

People often ask me if I do commissions. I do. The works in this portfolio represent some recent commissions.

The process is pretty simple. Contact me (through this web site) and we can discuss what you are interested in. Generally, I can complete a commission within two months.

The paintings in this series, The Beauty of Solitude was started in 2019, BEFORE COVID  gave most of us a more intimate understanding of solitude. This purpose of the collection was  to have the viewer reflect on the difference between solitude and loneliness.   The viewer can decide the back story, and if the painting evokes loneliness or simply the quiet contentment of being alone.

I had originally thought that this series so different from my traditional landscapes would have a limited appeal.  Well, surprise, most have sold!  I continue to be attracted to quiet reflective images, so am about to start up again with this exploration.
